Reject the comfort of conformity & embrace the relatability of obscurity.
Relatability comes from feeling seen in a way previously thought to be isolating. We can learn from universal rules about humanity, but there is no one universally pleased audience. When we pander to the widest audience possible, we lose touch with what will bring the primary audience in; feeling connected with as an individual. To design is to build a bridge. Some will walk across it, others will not. What matters is that the design strongly holds up those that do walk across it. This is why we must set the tempo and let the right audience fall in line, allow the design to hold the message and amplify it. The most dedicated audience is the one that feels seen; relatability is not about being everything to everyone, but being something real to someone.
