FOLK INSPIRED, MUSIC POWERED.
Melodica is a music magazine I designed that celebrates Kentucky folk culture and storytelling through thoughtful visual design. This issue uses a palette of warm, vintage-inspired colors and classic typefaces to reflect the tone and history of Southern music. I combined documentary-style photography with colorful illustrations to create pages that feel both nostalgic and alive, giving each story a sense of place and personality. The layout emphasizes rhythm and flow, guiding readers through a mix of intimate portraits, musical insight, and visual moments that echo the emotion of folk music itself. My goal was to design something that feels inviting and timeless, honoring the charm and authenticity of Kentucky’s creative roots. This was my first exploration into systematic and publication design, I feel it taught me a lot about the industry and the need for typographic hierarchy.
